The Importance of Communicating During a Cyber Crisis

We were thrilled to host a discussion on the importance of communicating during a cyber crisis in partnership with FTI Consulting. A special thank you to Ben Hamilton, Anna Gamvros and James Finlay who joined us to share their insights.

Our Top 5 Takeaways

  1. Importance of having a robust up to date cyber crisis communication plan: The most important takeaway was making sure you have a well-established plan - you don’t want to be building out your plan during a live crisis!

  2. Transparency: Only sharing what you know when you know. During a cyber event things move quickly and each day the information you know may change and it’s important you work with your crisis management team to only share what you know.

  3. Regular communication: Maintaining regular and timely communication helps build trust and allows for a more accurate understanding of the situation at hand

  4. Testing your plan regularly: This goes back to point number 1… during the event the panel couldn’t stress this enough. Don’t just write a plan and forget about it! Make sure you’re testing it often with the right people, especially as your team changes.

  5. Designating a spokesperson: During crisis events our key stakeholders want to hear from people with accountability. Make sure you’re clear on who will be your spokesperson and what messages you want them to land.

Thank you again to everyone who attended and we can’t wait to see you at our next event where we deep dive into the topic of AI and the role it will play in communication!
