Have you visited IABC Advance recently?

As a new IABC+ member, I took advantage of the April sign-up offer to add some learning Bundles to my Dashboard on IABC Advance. If you are already a certified CMP or SCMP, there is plenty of fresh content to help you earn points towards annual maintenance. I’m tallying all this learning up to apply for GCCC certification later this year.

What stood out from the Best of Masterclass Bundle

Crisis Communications presented by Clare Gleghorn, CEO of Bastion Reputation. Fast-paced, practical and thorough, it’s three hours well-spent and you get access to the slides afterwards. As well as learning what to do in the first 15 minutes and half-hour of a crisis, I also came away with a greater understanding of when and how to let a crisis break, and the importance of managing yourself and others.

AI for Communications Professionals, led by Alex Sevigny

As an academic and published author on the topic, Alex’s knowledge and list of recommended reading is impressive. He believes marketing and communications team have a strategic role to play and I find myself quoting him often, “Ensure a human has the final say.” I also learned that AI can’t spell when generating images containing text. Alex also recommends Dave Birss’ LinkedIn Learning classes on prompting techniques and how AI can help foster creativity.

If you’re looking for accredited learning on AI, TAFE NSW is offering free AI microskills. The content is far more technical but well-designed and you get to display on a badge on LinkedIn once complete:

  1. Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

  2. Generative AI and its Business Applications

  3. Responsible Artificial Intelligence

The Storytelling Bundle on IABC Advance offers a few classes suitable for listening to on the go if you’re trying to fit learning into a busy day:

  • Stories that Sell by Ravi Rajani was high-energy and engaging.

  • Storytelling Accelerates Your Message by Marilyn Barefoot is easily the most memorable… which just shows how powerful a good story is. Her anecdote about her response to a difficult airline passenger is worth the price of admission.
