IABC NSW hosting our first GCCC® exam in November
Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC®) exam to be held in Sydney on Saturday 14 November 2020.
As a business communicator, professional certification can elevate your career and help keep your skills fresh and applicable. It provides a great opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and expertise. And it could help you land your next big opportunity or perform at a higher level in your current role.
IABC NSW is thrilled to advise that we will be hosting our first Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC®) exam in Sydney on Saturday 14 November.
We invite all IABC members and non-members to sit the exam.
We look forward to receiving your applications by no later than Monday 19 October. To get you started, here is some important information on what you need to do to prepare.
What is GCCC® Certification?
The GCCC® was created by IABC to offer certification at various levels and to promote a common, global understanding of what constitutes professionalism and competence in communication. The Council is independent of IABC, so membership in IABC is not a condition of Council membership or certification.
The Council has based its certification programs, including the continuing professional development requirement, on the Global Standard℠ for communication professionals set out by IABC.
The Global Standard℠ was developed by IABC through research and consultation with the wider profession and states that “communication professionals around the world embrace a shared career purpose and six core principles as the building blocks of their work.” Those principles are:
Ethics
Strategy
Analysis
Context
Engagement
Consistency
What certifications are available?
GCCC® currently offers two levels of certification:
Communication Management Professional (CMP®): For generalist, specialist and other business communicators established in their careers as managers and looking to demonstrate their competence.
Strategic Communication Management Professional (SCMP®): For highly skilled business communicators practiced in providing strategic communication advice and counselling to an organisation’s leadership.

How do I apply?
As befits a global certification, the application process is rigorous. It includes a demonstration of recent professional experience and training. In the case of SCMP, a letter of recommendation is required from a mentee or organisation where you have provided pro bono work. Application fees apply to both certifications.
If you are thinking about applying, we encourage you to start preparing your application as soon as you can. Please have your submission completed by no later than Monday, 19 October 2020.
